Use this function to create and maintain a tax rate table for specified countries, US states and for Canadian provinces. The rates defined here can be used to override the current tax rates for any of the third party tax rate services.

Note:

Before tax rates are defined, you must first specify which tax rate service is to be used for the current project, as described in Specify a Tax Rate Service.

To define the tax rates you want used for specific countries, states and provinces:

  1. Click System Admin in the Administrative tasks menu. The System Admin page opens with the Project Settings page displayed.
  2. Select Tax>Tax from the left navigation menu. The Tax Rates page opens.
  3. At Select Country, use the drop-down list to select the country in which you want to charge tax or in which the applicable state or province is located.

Once a country is selected, any corresponding options become available in the Select State/Province drop-down list.
  4. At Select State/Province, use the drop-down list to select the state or province that needs to apply sales and use tax to each order.
To select all states or provinces or when no other options are available, select All states.
The new country (and corresponding state or province, if applicable) is added to the Tax Rates list.
  5. Locate the locale you just added and do the following:
    1. At Override?, leave this checkbox unchecked to let EDGE use whatever the current tax rate is from the tax rate service selected in Specify a Tax Rate Service.
         or
Select (check) the Override? checkbox if you want to override the current tax rate for the state or province.
    2. At Override Rate, enter the override tax rate.

      Notes:

The Override? checkbox must be selected (checked) before you can enter an override rate.
Enter the rate as a decimal.
For example, enter 7.5% tax as 0.075.

    3. At VAT Number(s), enter any applicable VAT numbers.

A VAT number, or VAT Registration Number, is an alphanumeric identifier consisting of up to 15 characters. This identifier is unique to an entity/merchant doing business in a country that implements the Value-Added Tax system (such as those in the European Union).
  6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 for each locale.
  7. Click to save your entries.

Done!

When you have finished all of the procedures described in EDGE Tax Calculation Services, the EDGE configuration for tax-related functions and providers is complete.
